DAYTON, Ohio - The La Salle University men's basketball team dropped its second straight Atlantic 10 road game on Wednesday evening, falling to Dayton, 70-39, at UD Arena. Freshman
Jared Kimbrough narrowly missed his first career double-double, posting eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both team struggled offensively in the first half, with the Flyers holding a 25-18 lead at intermission.
- The two teams combined to shoot 3-for-20 (15.0%) from three-point range.
- Junior Isiah Deas paced the Explorers with six points, while both Kimbrough and graduate student Pookie Powell grabbed six rebounds.
- La Salle opened the scoring in the second stanza, with Kimbrough converting on a bucket in the paint and knocking down two free throws to bring the visitors to within three at 25-22.
- The deficit was five at 33-28 after a jumper by junior Traci Carter at the 12-minute mark, before Dayton began its game-changing run.
- The Flyers scored 19 of the next 21 points over a seven-minute span to open up a 22-point lead.
- Senior Josh Cunningham and junior Ryan Mikesell tallied 14 of those 19 points as Dayton went on to victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- La Salle suffered through its second consecutive tough shooting night, hitting just 28.1 percent of its field goal attempts.
- Dayton, after shooting 32.1 percent in the first half, connected on 69.6 percent of its shots in the second.
- Sophomore David Beatty scored a team-high nine points as the Explorers failed to have a player reach double figures for the first time since Dec. 22, 2015 (vs. Miami (Fla.)).
- Cunningham closed with a team-high 18 points for the Flyers.
