Faso Goes Yard as Baseball Surges Past Eastern Shore, 13-4

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Ben Faso hit his fifth home run of the season and fellow senior Peyton Sorrels had three hits to pace the La Salle University baseball team to a 13-4 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday from Hank DeVincent Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Salle jumped all over Hawks' starter Cameron Bratton, scoring three runs on four hits in the opening inning.
  • Senior Kevin McGowan started it off by driving in Sorrels on an infield single to short. Faso then delivered an RBI single to center to score sophomore Tommy Toal. Freshman Tatem Levins capped off the inning with another RBI single, knocking in McGowan for a 3-0 lead.
  • Faso kept at it in the second inning, launching a three-run bomb to right center to score Sorrels and McGowan, putting the Explorers ahead 6-0.
  • Freshman Ross Mulhall added to the lead in the third with a deep RBI double off the wall in left center to bring in junior Ryan Guckin.
  • The Hawks got two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Explorers answered right back in the bottom of the frame. Levins drove home Toal on a single through the right side, and after a double steal, McGowan trotted home from third on a throwing error to make it 9-2.
  • La Salle pushed the advantage to 10 in the fifth when Mulhall advanced to third on a fielder's choice and then came in to score on another throwing error.
  • Eastern Shore scored once in the sixth on an RBI groundout, but again La Salle had an answer, as sophomore Jack Cucinotta ripped a single through the left side. Guckin came in to score on the hit, and after an errant throw into the outfield, both freshman Nick O'Day and Cucinotta scored as well.
  • The Hawks scored once more in the ninth before the Explorers ended the game with a double play.
