Baseball | April 16, 2019

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Ben Faso was named Philadelphia Big 5 Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday after putting together a big week at the plate for the Explorers over four games.

The reigning Big 5 Player of the Year jacked two home runs and drove in seven runs over a 3-1 week for La Salle. Faso slugged 1.091 while drawing five walks and batting .455 with a .625 on-base percentage, also scoring five runs.

On Wednesday, Faso drove in four runs and homered to lead La Salle to a 13-4 win over Maryland Eastern Shore. He homered again in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Quinnipiac, going 3-for-5 with four runs, three RBIs, three walks and a double over the two wins.

Faso leads the team in both RBI (38) and doubles (10) and has matched his career high with six homers this season. He has played in all 36 games so far, making the transition from first base to right field. Faso is tied for 10th in program history with 38 career doubles and is only 18 hits away from 200 for his career.

Fellow senior Peyton Sorrels was also recognized this week as the Philadelphia Baseball Review Hitter of the Week. Sorrels posted a .500/.579/.812 slash line over the four games last week, including three multi-hit games. He scored four runs, walked three times, stole three bases, tripled and hit his third homer of the year.

Faso, Sorrels and the Explorers take on city rivals Penn and Saint Joseph's this week.
