Levins Homers Twice in Setback to Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Tatem Levins hit two home runs, but the La Salle University baseball team fell at Saint Joseph's, 20-7, despite leading by three early on.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Levins gave the Explorers the lead in the second inning with a two-run homer to right, scoring senior Ben Faso. In the very next at-bat, sophomore Jack Cucinotta made it back-to-back jacks with a solo shot to left, giving La Salle a 3-0 advantage.
  • However, Saint Joe's immediately responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs to take a 4-3 lead.
  • The Hawks continued to add to their advantage with a run in the third and three more in the fifth. Saint Joe's then began to pull away in the sixth after scoring five runs in the inning to go on top, 13-3.
  • The home team scored twice more in the seventh before Levins hit his second long ball of the day, eighth of the year, to cut the deficit down to 15-5.
  • Saint Joe's continued the offensive outburst with five more runs in the bottom half of the eighth to take a commanding 15-run lead.
  • La Salle got two runs back in the ninth as senior Peyton Sorrels hit a leadoff triple and scored on an RBI groundout by sophomore Tommy Toal, and Levins capped off his day with an RBI double to score Faso. But the damage had already been done.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Levins finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs, while Faso was 2-of-4 with two runs scored.
  • With his eighth career triple in just two seasons, Sorrels moved into a tie for 10th on the program's career triples list.
UP NEXT
  • La Salle and Saint Joe's will continue their three-game series on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m., weather permitting.
