Baseball Falls to Red-Hot VCU in Series Finale

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University baseball team dropped the final game of its three-game series with VCU on Sunday, 28-4, from Hank DeVincent Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Rams wasted no time putting up runs, scoring twice in the first inning, seven times in the second and twice more in the third to go up 11-0.
  • La Salle came within 10 in the bottom of the third when senior Ben Faso led off with a double and then scored on an RBI single by sophomore Jack Cucinotta.
  • VCU kept on scoring though, getting nine runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh.
  • Sophomore Tommy Toal drove home senior Peyton Sorrels with an RBI double down the right field line in the bottom of the seventh. Toal later scored on an RBI double by freshman Tatem Levins to make it 26-3.
  • The Rams continued to pile it on in the eighth with two more runs. The Explorers added one more run in the eighth as junior Dylan Evans hit an RBI double to right center to score senior Brian Tagoe.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Evans went 2-for-2, while Sorrels, Toal, Levins and Cucinotta also had two hits apiece. Senior Connor Hinchliffe threw a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts.
  • VCU's Zac Ching hit for the cycle to help the Rams post a season-high 27 hits.

  • La Salle will remain home, hosting Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
