Sorrels Hinchliffe

Baseball | June 13, 2019

PHILADELPHIA – Two La Salle University baseball alumni received multiple year-end accolades on Thursday as Peyton Sorrels and Connor Hinchliffe earned ABCA/Rawlings All-Region and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area honors.

The duo becomes the fourth and fifth Explorers to ever earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region and the first since 2015 when Justin Korenblatt and Joey Ravert did so.

Sorrels was named to the All-East Region First Team at second base after putting forth one of the top offensive seasons in team history this past season. He finished the year third in single-season runs (55), fourth in single-season hits (78) and fifth in single-season stolen bases (25). An All-Big 5 second baseman, Sorrels was sixth in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a .359 batting average, while he was third in the league in runs, hits and stolen bases. He also drove in 28 runs, hit 11 doubles and smacked four home runs.

A member of the A-10 All-Academic Team last season, Sorrels landed Academic All-Area honors for the first time this year. In the classroom, he put forth a 3.57 GPA while studying Criminal Justice. After transferring to La Salle, Sorrels finished his two-year career with an impressive .330 average over 93 games, including 84 starts. In just those two seasons, he hit eight career triples, which is tied for 10th in the program.

Hinchliffe, who signed with the Philadelphia Phillies just last week, earned a spot on the All-East Region Second Team as a relief pitcher. The right-hander ranked among the national leaders in saves all season long and tied Pat Christensen's school record for single season saves with 13 this past spring. He was also second in single season team history with 28 appearances out of the bullpen as a senior, leading the team in ERA (2.27), WHIP (1.31) and opponent batting average (.181) while striking out 40.

A former outfielder turned pitcher, Hinchliffe adds both All-Region and Academic All-Area honors to a resume that already includes Atlantic 10 All-Academic, Big 5 Student-Athlete of the Year, All-Big 5, Big 5 All-Academic and Philadelphia Baseball Review Reliever of the Year. He was also named to the Golden Spikes Award and NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch lists during the season. Hinchliffe graduated in May with a 3.60 GPA and a degree in biology.
