Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Opener to GW

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-1-0 A-10) fell to George Washington (5-1-2, 1-0-0 A-10) on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium, 3-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Colonials jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half after goals during the 29th and 42nd minutes.
  • George Washington added another to push its lead to 3-0 during the 61st minute.
  • La Salle freshmen Danielle Rooney found the back of the net off assists from sophomore Alyssa Van Heurck and rookie Leah Giles during the 67th minute to put the Explorers on the board.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Claudia Jenkins (4-4-1) recorded four saves.
  • La Salle had six corner kicks, four better than George Washington.
GAME NOTES:
  • Rooney's goal was the first of her career.
  • Van Heurck's assist is the first of her career.
UP NEXT:
La Salle heads to Richmond for a Thursday match against the Spiders. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
