RICHMOND, Va. – With 1:41 left in the first overtime period, redshirt-senior
Maci Bower beat a defender one-on-one in the box and sent the game-winner past the hands of the diving keeper to lift La Salle women's soccer (5-4-1, 1-1-0 A-10) by Richmond (4-4-2, 1-1-0 A-10), 2-1, on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Richmond struck first during the 6th minute of play as Brooke Beam found Alyssa Walker for the opening score.
- Nearing the end of the first half, Bower was fouled in the box, calling for a penalty kick. Junior Jenna Soriano took the kick and sent it past the keeper to knot things at one apiece.
- After 90 minutes of play, neither team broke a way, forcing overtime.
- Bower won the game during the 99th minute with her stellar play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Soriano's goal marks her first on the season.
- Junior keeper Claudia Jenkins (5-4-1) recorded six saves in the win.
- The Explorers had eight corner kicks, topping Richmond's two.
GAME NOTES:
- Bower's goal moves her into first place on the team with five goals and 11 points. She's eclipsed the double-digit point totals in every season she has played except her freshman year.
