PHILADELPHIA – La Salle University baseball senior Erik Janss has been appointed as the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative for the Atlantic 10 Conference. He has also taken over as Chair of the Atlantic 10 Conference SAAC.
 
Janss, a veteran relief pitcher on the Explorers baseball team, is one of 32 student-athletes from around the country chosen to represent each of the NCAA Division I conferences.
 
"I am truly honored to be blessed with the opportunity to represent the student-athletes of not only La Salle University, but the Atlantic 10 as well," said Janss. "To be given the responsibility to be the voice of the A-10 on the national level is something I never imagined I would be able to do. This opportunity means a lot to me because it gives me the chance to be a part of something that has an impact across the country."
 
He will represent the entire Atlantic 10 Conference on the national level, partaking in national meetings that involve discussions on the impact of legislative proposals and emphasizing initiatives to support the student-athlete experience. One of those meetings is at the NCAA Convention, which will take place in Anaheim, Calif.
 
In addition to being the conference's NCAA representative, Janss leads the A-10 SAAC as chair of the group. In this role, he facilitates the group's annual meeting and reports to the league's athletic directors. The A-10 SAAC also discusses conference-wide initiatives and legislation.
 
"I hope I learn how to serve all of those who I represent through this opportunity," Janss continued. "This opportunity has provided me with the ability to connect with people from across the country who all want to better the student-athlete experience. From these people I hope to learn how to be a better leader and how to represent my conference and school to the best of my ability. Serving on the DI SAAC is a tremendous responsibility and honor. I look forward to all the challenges and lessons it brings."
 
Janss has been actively involved in SAAC both at La Salle and on the conference level while regularly earning Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition for his work in the classroom. He has also played a key role on La Salle's pitching staff, picking up three wins on the mound this past season. Janss has helped lead La Salle's SAAC on campus, has represented the University at the annual A-10 meetings as well as the NCAA Convention, and as a sophomore he took part in the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum.
