Weir, Mora Push Men’s Soccer to Shutout Win at Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore Andrew Weir netted his first collegiate goal and goalkeeper Carlos Mora earned a shutout in his collegiate debut to lead the La Salle University men's soccer team to its first road win of the year, 1-0, at Howard on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Making his first collegiate appearance in goal, Mora easily kept the Bison off the scoreboard in the opening frame, as the two squads entered the midpoint at a scoreless tie.
  • After numerous close attempts on goal, the Explorers broke through with the first and only tally of the game midway through the second half.
  • Sophomore Bryce Gabelhart fed a loose ball to classmate Tarin Morris, who in turn lofted a pass to fellow sophomore Omari Cotterell to spark a breakaway. Cotterell found Weir streaking down the left side and he delivered with his first career strike.
  • That was all the insurance Mora needed, closing out a 1-0 shutout in his first ever appearance for La Salle.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • It's the second shutout of the season for the Explorers and the first for Mora in his very first game wearing Blue and Gold.
  • La Salle (4-4-0) has already eclipsed its win total from all of last season only eight games into the 2019 campaign.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers will return to Atlantic 10 action on Saturday with their first conference home game of the year against Duquesne at 7 p.m.
