Cotterell's Overtime Goal Gives Men's Soccer 2-1 Win Over Duquesne

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Omari Cotterell fired home the game-winning goal in the 97th minute to give the La Salle University men's soccer team a thrilling 2-1, overtime win over Duquesne in Atlantic 10 action at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday evening. The win improves the Explorers to 5-4-0 overall and evens their league record at 1-1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Salle got on the scoreboard early, as freshman Nigel Buckley streaked up the left side and finished to the lower-right corner just 2:04 into the match to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
  • The Dukes, who entered the contest with a 6-1-1 record, fired back with the equalizer in the 19th minute when Zach Hall converted off a corner kick from Nate Dragisich.
  • Neither team had many more opportunities the remainder of the half, with the sides combining for just five shots over the first 45 minutes.
  • Play opened up in the second stanza, with the Explorers outshooting the Dukes by a 12-5 margin but they could not find the go-ahead tally.
  • Late in regulation, Duquesne nearly dashed La Salle's hopes as Manel Busquets hit the post on his attempt with less than a minute to go.
  • The match moved to overtime, with the Explorers taking advantage of the only shot of the period.
  • Cotterell took possession from outside the box and moved past numerous Duquesne defenders before he finished with his left foot to send the Explorers into celebration mode.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
