Men's Water Polo | September 28, 2019

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –The Explorers fell to Wagner 15-12 on Friday after being unable to recover from a slow start to the game. Senior Luke Waechter and sophomore Tyler Williams combined for seven of the team's 12 goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Seahawks flew out of the gates, starting the quarter up 3-0. Junior Daniel Domotor got one back for the Explorers, but Wagner scored another pair to lead 5-1 after the first.
  • Williams tallied all three of his goals in the second quarter—he, along with senior Jacob Camacho and junior Karl Miller helped the Explorers outscore the home side 5-4. At the half, La Salle still trailed 9-6.
  • Wagner and Waechter went back and forth to begin the third, with La Salle's number 22 and the opposition each scoring twice. The home side would add another, while senior Joey DeFusco and junior Cole Strohson would also score, giving La Salle a 4-3 frame and closing the gap to 12-10 after three periods of play.
  • The Seahawks netted twice to stretch the lead to four. Although La Salle would find an answer through two goals from Waechter, the home side found the definitive score to take the game with 1:24 remaining.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Waechter had the highest goal tally for the Explorers, and with an assist he was tied for the team lead in points. DeFusco scored once but also dished out a team-high four assists.
  • Williams and Miller were the Explorers who followed in the point column with three a piece.
  • Strohson on D: La Salle's number four had a solid outing doing the less glamorous work, pacing the Explorers in steals (three) and blocks (four). Waechter and Domotor also had multi-block games with two each.
  • Junior Cameron Schiable and freshman Adriano Zunino split time in net, with each goalkeeper recording six saves.
