PHILADELPHIA - A pair of road contests dot the schedule for the La Salle University field hockey program this weekend. The Explorers continue their four-game road swing with a matchup against Rider on Friday, Sept. 6, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Two days later, La Salle and Wagner square off in Staten Island for a 1:30 p.m. tilt.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
- La Salle split its first two games of the 2019 season, earning an impressive 3-0 win against Sacred Heart in the home opener before falling to Temple on the road by the same score.
- Freshman Hannah Yanovich scored the game-winning goal against the Pioneers and also registered an assists in her collegiate debut.
- The performance was good enough to earn Yanovich Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.
- The Dallas, Pa. native is tied for the team lead in all three offensive categories, with senior Lauren Lechleitner sharing team-high honors in points with three.
- Lechleitner also had a goal and an assist against Sacred Heart, with freshman Noralie Pareau Dumont notching the other goal for the Explorers.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Cassie Kincaid also made her debut for the Explorers against Sacred Heart, registering the first shutout of her collegiate career.
SCOUTING THE BRONCS
- Rider opened the season last weekend with a home contest with Lehigh, falling by a 1-0 score.
- The Broncs outshout the Mountain Hawks, 14-10, but saw the visitors score in the 24th minute of the first half with what proved to be the game winner.
- Julia Divorra paced Rider with four shot attempts while Lena Vandam made seven stops in net.
- Rider was chosen to finish second in their first season back in the Northeast Conference after being in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference since 2013.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
- In its first varsity season, Wagner made an immediate splash in the program's first game, defeating Hofstra by a 3-0 margin.
- Kira Mordvinov earned NEC Rookie of the Week accolades after scoring a pair of goals against the Pride.
- Another freshman, Hannah Meyer, also found the back of the cage in the victory.
- Wagner features 10 freshmen on its roster that includes just one senior or graduate student - goalkeeper Annabel Zandvoort.
