PHILADELPHIA – With a 44 point combination from the Aussie twins,
Amy Jacobs and
Claire Jacobs, the La Salle women's basketball team (9-12, 3-5 A-10) claimed a 77-65 victory over George Mason (7-14, 1-7 A-10) on Wednesday night inside Tom Gola Arena. The Explorers have now won two-straight and three of their last four games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle opened the game on a 7-0 run to force a George Mason timeout at 7:22 in the frame. The Explorers finished the frame with a 17-13 advantage for a 24-13 lead. C. Jacobs accounted for 13 La Salle points on 5-of-6 shooting and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Collectively, the Explorers were 9-of-19 for 47.4%.
- Mason cut the deficit in the second period with an 18-14 margin. Six different Explorers scored in the period.
- La Salle pushed its lead to 13 points after a six point differential in the third period. The Blue & Gold opened the stanza on a 9-2 run going a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor with one long ball. Four different Explorers registered a point, while the defense held the Patriots 0-of-5 from the field. The remainder of the period was a back-and-forth affair with each team dropping nine points.
- Mason was hot out of the gate in the final quarter with a 12-3 spurt to pull within four. La Salle buckled down with an 18-10 advantage to seal the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Collectively, the Blue & Gold shot 44.0% from the field, 34.6% from long range, and 85.7% from the line – all topping the Patriots.
- La Salle's fast-paced offense was in full effect as it scored 26 points in transition, tying a season best.
- C. Jacobs tied her career high and La Salle freshman scoring record of 29 points. The rookie was 9-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from downtown. She added seven points on a 7-of-8 effort from the stripe.
- A. Jacobs recorded 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting. She was 3-of-4 from both long range and the free throw line.
- Senior Shalina Miller was a force on the defensive end as she corralled a game high 12 rebounds and five blocks.
GAME NOTES:
- La Salle's three conference wins match last season's total with nine regular season games remaining.
- Miller has recorded 11 blocks and 27 rebounds over her last two games against George Mason.
