Baseball Suffers Another Heartbreaker to Brown in Extra Innings, 4-3

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The La Salle University baseball team scored two runs in the ninth to tie the game and force extra innings, but Brown walked it off in the 10th on Sunday from Wake Forest, 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Tatem Levins opened up the scoring in the first inning with his first home run of the season, a solo shot to right for a 1-0 lead.
  • Starting pitcher Manny Corporan kept the Bears scoreless over the first four innings until Brown worked three runs on three hits in the fifth, capped off by a Calvin Farris homer that made it 3-1.
  • It turned out to be a pitcher's duel as Brown entered the ninth inning with a two-run lead before La Salle rallied.
  • After a leadoff walk by freshman David Smith and a single by Levins, freshman Elijah Dickerson hit an RBI single through the right side to make it a one-run difference. Senior Ryan Guckin then brought home Levins on a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at three apiece.
  • La Salle put two men on with one out in the 10th but couldn't capitalize, and Brown answered with a walk-off double by Rich Ciufo in the bottom half to end it.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Levins led the Explorers, going 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk along with the long ball.
  • Corporan allowed just three runs on seven hits over seven innings pitched while striking out five. Senior Erik Janss also threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers will head to Delaware State on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
