NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Redshirt senior Nathan Gillis of the La Salle University men's track and field team was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team for the indoor season on Friday.

Gillis wrapped up his collegiate indoor career by winning his second consecutive Atlantic 10 title in the 1,000-meter run at the league championships. He defended his gold medal in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:29.31 to collect the fifth A-10 medal of his three-year career with the Explorers.

The UK native was a two-time A-10 Track Performer of the Week this season, taking the honor twice in three weeks after winning each of his first two events of the year. Gillis won the 800 meters in his season debut at the Penn 8-Team Select and followed that up with another win in the 800 at the Penn State National Open. He was also a member of La Salle's 4x800 relay team that finished sixth at the A-10 Indoor Championships, and in the fall, he finished 17th individually to help the Explorers win the A-10 Cross Country title.

On top of all that, Gillis got the job done in the classroom, putting together a 3.23 cumulative GPA as a psychology student at La Salle.
