Cucinotta Homers in Baseball’s Setback at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Jack Cucinotta hit his second home run of the season, but the La Salle University baseball team suffered a 10-2 setback at Wofford on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Freshman Gabe Rappa kept the Terriers off the scoreboard through the first three innings, holding the home team to just one hit.
  • But Wofford opened up the scoring in the fourth inning on a two-run single and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-0 lead.
  • The Terriers then ran away with a 7-0 lead in the fifth with four runs on three hits and an error before adding another run in the sixth to make it 8-0.
  • Cucinotta got La Salle on the board in the seventh, hitting a solo homer to left center to bring the score to 8-1.
  • Wofford answered right back in the bottom half with a run on a wild pitch though to push the difference back to eight.
  • Senior Ryan Guckin provided some life in the eighth inning with an RBI single to center to score freshman Elijah Dickerson to make it 9-2.
  • The Terriers added one more run on an RBI double in the eighth to cap off the scoring.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Cucinotta, Guckin and sophomore Tatem Levins each had two hits in the game.
  • Wofford starting pitcher Hayes Heinecke struck out seven over six scoreless.

  • The Explorers and Terriers will wrap up their series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
