Explorers Roll to 89-52 Victory over Fordham

PHILADELPHIA – After earning a thrilling road win at Dayton on Wednesday, the La Salle Explorers made another statement on Saturday in a dominating 89-52 triumph over the Fordham Rams from Tom Gola Arena. Five Explorers scored in double figures and La Salle knocked down a season-high 16 three-pointers for its largest win since 2011.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Explorers wasted no time in jumping ahead as senior David Beatty drained a three on the opening possession and redshirt junior Clifton Moore made a put-back layup to make it 5-0 quickly.
  • After Fordham made it 7-4 with 16:35 left in the half, La Salle gained full control with a 14-0 run over the next four minutes, capped off by a three-pointer by sophomore Sherif Kenney to make it 21-4.
  • Kenney and redshirt sophomore Jack Clark later knocked down back-to-back trifectas to extend the lead to 20 only midway through the period, 27-7, extending the Explorers' run to 20-3.
  • After Fordham snapped out of its scoring drought, freshman Jhamir Brickus found Moore for an alley-oop to get the momentum back on La Salle's side.
  • Redshirt senior Scott Spencer scored eight points over the final 3:38 and the Explorers stretched out a 26-point lead at halftime, 45-19.
  • It didn't take long for the Explorers to expand their lead to 30 just 1:28 into the second frame, going up 51-21 after a 6-0 run finished off by a Beatty layup.
  • The Rams followed with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit down to 23, but two consecutive Spencer triples pushed the La Salle advantage to 60-32 with 13:47 remaining.
  • A three from sophomore Ayinde Hikim and an old-fashioned three-point play by Kenney gave the Explorers a 32-point lead just moments later, 66-34.
  • The Explorers just kept growing their advantage down the stretch, taking their largest lead of the game (41) on a Kenney jumper that made it 86-45 with 4:54 remaining, as the home team cruised to its second consecutive victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The 37-point victory is La Salle's largest since Dec. 7, 2011 when the Explorers won by 38 at Towson, 89-51.
  • It is also La Salle's largest margin of victory since its Sweet 16 season in 2013 when the Explorers beat Duquesne by 33, 97-64. It marks the first 30+ point win for La Salle since beating Division III Rowan, 81-51, on Nov. 28, 2015.
  • Kenney led all scorers with 18 off the bench and knocked down four three-pointers, while Spencer had a season-high 16 points off the pine and was 4-for-6 from three-point land.
  • Clark contributed 15 points, while Beatty had 14 and Hikim added 10. Brickus dished out a career-high 10 assists and Moore chipped in nine points.
  • La Salle shot 57.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc while holding a steep 47-12 advantage in bench scoring.
  • The Explorers' 16 three-pointers were their most in a game since knocking down 16 against Mercer in 2017.
