Men’s Golf Completes Final Day of Elon Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. – The La Salle men's golf team finished their third and final round of the Elon Phoenix Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, carding their best round of the event with a 300 (+16).
 
ABOUT THE EVENT
  • The Alamance Country Club is a par 71 course, playing at 6,867 yards.
  • The tournament consisted of three rounds after opening with the first two rounds on Monday morning/afternoon.
  • 13 teams competed in the event with 84 golfers, including 19 individuals.
 
LA SALLE SCORECARD
  • Kristian Fortis and Alex Gekas led the charge on the final day of action, both shooting a 73 (+2) on the afternoon. Fortis shot back-to-back birdies on the turn from 18 to 1 on his way to a final tally of 221 (+8). Gekas opened his collegiate debut in team play with back-to-back rounds of 73 (+2), ending his tournament with a score of 223 (+10).
  • Matthew Werner dropped off his opening pace in the third round, shooting an 81 (+10) on the final day to sit at 225 (+12) on the tournament.
  • Entering the final round with nothing separating their scores, Parker Wine and Logan Flores both carded a 77 (+6) on the afternoon to finish at 242 (+28).
 
THE FIELD
  • The hosts held a sizable advantage heading into the final round and were able to easily maintain the low score despite Appalachian State making up eight strokes on the final round. Elon finished with a team score of 821 (-31) on the tournament while the Mountaineers finished runner-up with an 830 (-22)
  • A three-way tie at the top of the individual leaderboard saw Dougie Ergood (North Carolina), Jake Lane (Appalachian State) and Pedro Rabadan (Elon) all finished at 203 (-10). Ergood made a third-round surge with a 64 (-7) while Lane's 65 (-6) helped them catch up to the opening day leader in Rabadan.

  • The Explorers return to action at the Nassau Intercollegiate in two weeks, action set for Monday, Oct. 25-Tuesday, Oct. 26.
