PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – An early scoring effort from Saint Joseph's was all the Hawks needed to top the La Salle men's soccer team at McCarthy Stadium, 1-0, on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Just over a minute into the game, Saint Joseph's Garrett Lyons set the ball up for Alex Hartmann to score and secure an early lead for the Hawks.
• The Explorers battled back-and-forth with the Hawks for 40 more minutes until Nigel Buckley managed to get the first shot for the Explorers just wide of the Saint Joseph's net.
• Buckley took a second shot at the goal in the 65^th minute, but it was punched over the endline by the Saint Joseph's goalkeeper to give the Explorers another chance at the net with a corner kick. The Explorers placed the ball right in front of the goal where Charlie Collins got a one-time shot off saved by the Hawks defense.
• Junior Nare attempted to tie it up for La Salle in the 84^th minute with shot from the left side into the right of the net blocked by a diving Hawks' defender. With just under a minute remaining, Nare made a last-minute attempt at the bottom center of the net, but goalkeeper Lars Haavie was there to answer the call and secure Saint Joseph's victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• The Hawks led the Explorers in shots, 15-5, and corner kicks, 10-6.
• Nare and Buckley led the La Salle attack with two shots on goal apiece.
• La Salle goalkeeper Mitch Foster logged all 90 minutes in net and made five saves.

• La Salle hits the road this Saturday, Oct. 23 to take on Rhode Island. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
