Women’s Soccer Gears Up for Regular Season Finale

Team Huddle

Women's Soccer | October 20, 2021

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team stays in the city for the final weekend of the Atlantic 10 season, visiting Saint Joseph's on Thursday night before hosting Massachusetts on the final day of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 24.

WEEKEND IMPLICATIONS
  • With only eight teams advancing to the A-10 Tournament, the Explorers sit in a tie for eighth with only two games to play.
  • 12 of 14 teams are still in contention to qualify for the postseason, a La Salle win cutting the number to 10 teams.
  • George Mason joins La Salle with 10 points, as Thursday's opponent St. Joseph's sits one point behind with nine. Duquesne (7 pts) and George Washington (6 pts) would need two wins and other results to fall their way to leap over the Explorers.
  • As it stands, La Salle would head to Virginia for a rematch against VCU in the opening round of the playoffs.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
  • The offense has struggled for Saint Joseph's after 16 games, only recording 10 goals through the season on its way to a 3-11-2 (3-5 A-10) record on the year. SJU looks to make a late surge into the playoff discussion, needing a win Thursday to alter the outlook of the season.
  • Six different players have recorded goals for the Hawks, led by Ashley Orendac's three tallies. Rachel Brown shares a team-high six points with Orendac, scoring twice and assisting twice on the year.
  • Izzy Greene has been the creativity for the SJU attack, pacing the Hawks with three assists.
  • Katie Cappelletti has started all 16 games in net for Saint Joseph's. The sophomore holds a 1.41 GAA and a .805 save percentage, nearly eclipsing triple digits with 91 saves on the season.

SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN
  • Massachusetts enters the final two matches with a record of 9-4-3 and a 5-2-1 mark in conference to ensure a spot in the A-10 tournament.
  • UMass has the league leader in assists on its roster, Chandler Pedolzky recording eight on the season to also lead the squad with a team-high 16 points. Her four goals sit right behind Ashley Lamond, who leads the team with five.
  • The Minutewomen have outscored their opponents by a 23-17 margin, allowing just 1.00 goals per game.
  • Megan Olszewski has started in the net for a majority of the season, holding a .840 save percentage with just a 0.72 GAA.
