PHILADELPHIA – After playing five straight games on the road, La Salle field hockey finally returns to Hank DeVincent Field on Thursday, Oct. 28 when they host Atlantic 10 leader Saint Joseph's in their regular season finale.
Thursday's match will also be La Salle's field hockey mental awareness game, as the team encourages fans to donate to the organization Minding Your Mind, whose objective is to provide mental health education to adolescents, teens, and young adults, their parents, teachers, and school administrators. SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle's most recent road trip brought the Explorers up to Massachusetts, where they fell to No. 20 UMass before bouncing back with a 1-0 win over Holy Cross in their final non-conference contest.
- La Salle's offense has averaged 2.06 goals per game through 16 contests, with 33 goals from 13 unique goal scorers.
- Sophomore Tatum Johnson leads the potent Explorer attack and is tied for the A-10 lead with 27 points, coming on 10 goals and seven assists.
- Freshman Sofia Pla follows with 18 points, on eight goals and two assists.
- In goal, sophomore Ryan Curley has made all 16 starts for the Explorers while holding a goals-against average of 2.48 with a save percentage of 0.701.
- As a team, the Explorers have posted three shutouts, most recently in Sunday's 1-0 win over Holy Cross.
- Grace Ferriolo, Emma Holzman, Tori Wright, and Pla have played a majority of the minutes on defense, holding opponents to a shot percentage of 0.174.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:
- Saint Joseph's enters Thursday ranked 12th in the NFHCA Division I Coach's Poll with an overall record of 12-4 and conference record of 5-1.
- In their only game last weekend, the Hawks beat Davidson 6-0 while outshooting the Wildcats 24-0.
- As a team, the Hawks average 3.19 goals per game while conceding just 1.13 per contest.
- Saint Joseph's has tallied several wins against ranked opponents in 2021, beating No. 4 North Carolina, No. 8 Rutgers, and No. 12 Boston College, while their four losses have all come against ranked opponents.
- Freke van Tilburg is tied atop the A-10 leaderboard with La Salle's Tatum Johnson with 27 points, while Manu Ghigliotti follows with 23 points.
- In total, seven different Hawks have tallied double-digit points.
- In goal, Robin Bleekemolen has made all 16 starts for Saint Joseph's with a goals-against average of just 1.08 with 45 saves.
