Swimming & Diving Set to Host Drexel in Pink Meet

PHILADELPHIA – After kicking off their season at the Catholic Invite, men's and women's swimming and diving return to Kirk Pool on Friday, Oct. 8 to host Drexel in their Pink Meet at 5 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS: WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
  • The Explorers concluded last year's A-10 Championship in seventh place, led by a gold-medal performance from Sara Rizzetto in the 200-back where she set a school record with a time of 1:57.65.
  • In this season's opener at the Catholic Invite, La Salle tallied a second-place finish with 581.5 points, trailing only host and ACC-powerhouse Boston College.
  • Junior Toni Rafferty finished second in the women's 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 53.47.
  • In the women's 200-yard backstroke, senior Sara Rizzetto finished in third with a time of 2:04.71.
  • Senior Anne Moser placed second in the women's 1000-yard freestyle with a final time of 10:44.54.
  • On the diving side, senior Phoebe Shaya took the top spot in the women's three-meter dive with a score of 227.25.
  • Kaitlyn Smykowski followed in fifth in the three-meter, while Erica Kenski placed seventh.
  • In the women's one-meter competition, Shaya led the Explorers with a third-place mark, while Julie D'Amore finished fifth.
 
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS: WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
  • The men's swimming team enters the new season on the heels of a sixth place finish in last season's A-10 Championships.
  • Senior Zachary Wolbert broke his own school record in those Championships, earning the silver medal in the 200-Fly with a time of 1:45.23.
  • In their season opener at the Catholic Invite last weekend, the Explorers finished 395 points to finish fourth.
  • Trenton Burr and Alex Kuriawa finished second and third respectively in the men's 100-yard backstroke.
  • Burr also ranked fourth in the men's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.59.
  • Jake Kramer ranked fifth in the men's 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:38.25.
  • Sam Henninger took the top spot in the men's one-meter dive with a score of 273.80.
 
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
  • Drexel enters their season opener against La Salle after their men's team placed third while their women's team placed sixth in the CAA Championships in the spring.
  • The Explorers and Dragons last squared off in 2019, where Drexel's women won 194.5-99.5 while the Drexel men won 180-117.
  • Sophomore Will Soleo took home the gold medal in the 1650 freestyle in those championships, while sophomore Kacper Karnik took gold in the 200 breast for the men's team.
  • On the women's side, the Dragons are led by senior Ryann Styer, who took three individual victories in their meet against Villanova.
