Men’s Soccer Suffers Loss Against Davidson

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -  The La Salle men's soccer team stayed within reach of the lead through the 52nd minute, but two free kick opportunities right in front of the net gave Davidson the opportunity it needed to pull away with the lead. The Explorers fell to the Wildcats 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A penalty kick in the seventh minute gave Davidson the early advantage, but the Explorers were quick to catch up. Sam Decencio and Dominick Bachstein tag-teamed the ball to Omari Cotterell who found the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1, in the 19th minute.
  • After a scoreless 52 minutes, in which La Salle controlled possession, the Wildcats saw their opportunity to take the lead when a foul right outside of the box set Davidson's Henry Howell up for his second goal of the game.
  • The Wildcats' Cam Abernathy had the same opportunity in the 60th minute, capitalizing on the free kick to give Davidson the two-point lead.
  • Cotterell came through a second time for the Explorers in the 83rd minute collecting the ball from Scott Beeks to bring La Salle back within one point of the lead.
  • Nicholas Cavallo drew Explorers goalkeeper Carlos Mora to the left side before dumping the ball off to Benjamin Gilligan on the right for Davidson's final goal of the game in the 85th minute.
