Surging Billikens Too Much for Men’s Basketball on the Road

SAINT LOUIS – Freshman guard Jhamir Brickus scored a career-high 22 points, but the La Salle men's basketball team fell on the road at Saint Louis Tuesday evening, 78-57. It was the Billikens' fourth straight victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It didn't take long for Saint Louis to jump in front, taking the lead 24 seconds in and quickly turning it into an 11-4 advantage at the first media timeout.
  • By the next media timeout, the Billikens had stretched the difference to 21-8, a lead that eventually grew to 19 before Brickus made back-to-back baskets to stop a 7-0 run and bring La Salle within 15 with 6:12 remaining in the half.
  • The Explorers didn't make their first three-pointer until Brickus connected from deep with 11 seconds left in the first half as the squad went just 1-for-13 from downtown in the period, leading to a 39-23 halftime deficit.
  • Brickus made another three to start the second half and the Explorers got within 12 on a turnaround jumper by senior David Beatty just under five minutes into the period, 45-33, but Saint Louis responded with a 16-4 run to take complete control, 61-37.
  • The Billikens would lead by as many as 26 points as they improved to 10-1 on their home floor.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brickus matched his previous career high in the first half alone with 13 points in the opening frame and finished the game 10-for-18 from the floor with a game-high three steals.
  • The Explorers finished just 5-for-28 from three-point territory, and on the flip side, the Billikens shot 52.5 percent from the field.
  • Redshirt sophomore Jack Clark added 13 points and six rebounds, while Jordan Goodwin was two assists shy of a triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists for Saint Louis.
