DOVER, Del. – As the rain steadily came down on a 33-degree Monday evening, the La Salle women's soccer team (2-0) set program records for points and goals, while tying the record in assists as it shutout Delaware State (0-2), 9-0. Rookie
Madison McCready tied the program single game record with three assists.
The Explorers 27 points (25 vs. St. Peter's 9/8/00), 9 assists (accomplished twice before), and nine goals (8 vs. St. Peter's 9/8/00) are the most ever by a team in a given game.
La Salle's 13 goals and 37 points through the first two games is also a program record.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Amirah Louketis scored the first two goals of the game at 13:55 and 18:24 from inside the 18. Both were assisted by McCready.
- The third goal (34:52) came off the head of freshmen Kelli McGroarty after a throw in from sophomore Leah Giles and cross from rookie Alyssa Gargiulo.
- La Salle ended the first half up 4-0 after an own goal (35:25) by the Hornets.
- Louketis completed the hat trick with her third goal (57:46) from about 18 yards out on a dish from freshmen Caitlin Donovan.
- Less than two minutes later, Donovan tallied a goal of her own (59:19) from close range after McCready handed her a perfect pass.
- Redshirt-junior Mary Kate Vinkler scored her first goal as an Explorer at 68:06 following a dish from McGroarty from about 20 yards out.
- Vinkler connected again (79:54), this time off a pass from classmate Molly O'Brien.
- O'Brien then registered a goal (84:49) of her own after sophomore Danielle Rooney fed her a ball.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Loukeits finished with six points on three goals and four shots on net.
- Vinkler tallied four points with a pair of goals on three accurate shots.
- McCready (3 assists), O'Brien (1 goal, 1 assist), McGroarty (1 goal, 1 assist), and Donovan (1 goal, 1 assist) all had three points apiece.
- Giles and Gargiulo contributed one point each on assists.
- Redshirt-freshman Jordynn Stallard (2-0) took the win with a pair of saves on two shots faced.
GAME NOTES:
- McCready, Gargiulo, and Vinkler all had their first collegiate points.
- Rookies Gabby Oudin and Courtney Gaston made their college debuts.
