PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (9-10, 5-7 A-10) battled a full 40 minutes Sunday afternoon but dropped the game to conference leading Dayton (10-1, 9-0 A-10), 95-66.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Dayton jumped out to a 13-0 lead through the first 4:17 before La Salle called a timeout. The Blue & Gold were trailing after one, 26-9.
- La Salle revived its offensive effort to start the second frame going point-for-point with the Flyers through the first 5:01. Each team dropped 14 points apiece for a Dayton 40-23 lead. The Explorers claimed an 11-7 margin over the remainder of the period with Dayton up, 47-34.
- The visitors boosted their lead with an 11-5 scoring benefit over the first 5:22 of the third stanza. Dayton pushed it up to a 23-point lead after three at 73-50.
- To start the final quarter, the teams traded the first 22 points for 11 apiece at the 4:13 mark. Dayton held an 84-61 lead. The Flyers concluded the game with a 9-5 scoring differential.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Sophomore Claire Jacobs scored a team high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. She added a pair of blocks to her line.
- Junior Kayla Spruill was next with 11 points on a 3-of-4 afternoon from the floor and went 4-of-5 from the line. Spruill also had a team best six rebounds.
- Junior Molly Masciantonio chipped in eight points and handed out a game high five assists.
- Sophomore Amy Jacobs also tallied eight points on the day.
- La Salle scored 18 of its points from the free throw line on 21 attempts.
- Collectively the group shot 37.7% overall, 30.8% from deep, and 85.7% from the stripe.
- The Explorers' 66 points is the second most against Dayton's nationally fifth ranked defense.
