Kenney Shines, But Men’s Basketball Falls at Bonnies

OLEAN, N.Y. – Sophomore Sherif Kenney scored a career-high 22 points, but the La Salle men's basketball team fell on the road to Atlantic 10 Conference leader St. Bonaventure Tuesday, 86-73.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Explorers held the lead early on after a pair of three-pointers by Kenney and freshman Jhamir Brickus and made it 14-7 on a dunk by freshman Tegra Izay with 13:51 to go in the first half.
  • La Salle kept the pressure on and extended their advantage to nine as sophomore Jack Clark and Kenney both hit from beyond the arc to put the Explorers up 22-13 midway through the half.
  • But St. Bonaventure scored the next nine points to even the score at 22 apiece less than two minutes later and quickly went in front, 31-27, after a three by Kyle Lofton.
  • Lofton later gave the Bonnies a 45-35 advantage going into halftime as he knocked down a triple in the final seconds of the half and the Bonnies maintained the double-digit advantage over the majority of the second half, leading by as many as 18 points.
  • Three-pointers by Kenney, senior David Beatty and Brickus got La Salle within 10 with 2:40 to go, but that was as close as the Explorers would come.

  • Kenney was 5-for-7 from the floor and 4-of-5 from downtown, and Brickus was 5-of-6 shooting from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from deep.
