Lacrosse Drops A-10 Opener at St. Joe's

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle lacrosse (2-4) fell to Saint Joseph's on Friday, 18-11, as the Hawks surged in the second half. Senior Annina Iacobucci and sophomore Tori Rolon each recorded hattricks, while senior Sarah Elias provided a career-high four assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Salle got off to a good start, countering the Hawks' opening goal with three straight scored to take the early advantage.
  • The Explorers kept the home team at a two-goal distance until the score was 6-4, after which Saint Joseph's embarked on a three-goal jaunt to close out the half.
  • Down 7-6 coming out of the intermission, senior Emily Johnston struck for the Blue & Gold to tie the game. The Hawks then answered with another three goal to pulla ahead, 10-7.
  • Iacobucci and classmate Allison Hunter each found the back of the net to cut the deficit to one goal at the 17:56 mark.
  • The game transpired without a change in the score for seven minutes. Eventually, the hosts discovered a rich vein of form, scoring six unanswered to take a commanding 16-9 lead with under five minutes remaining.
  • Hunter and graduate student Gabby Burton tallied goals for La Salle in the space of just over a minute to bring the game within five, but two more for Saint Joseph's sealed the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Iacobucci's hattrick was her fourth multi-goal game of the season, tying senior Bridget Ruskey for most on the team.
  • She was joined by Rolon, Hunter and Johnston with multi-goal games.
  • Quick fire: Rolon's hattrick is her second of the season, the previous time coming against Boston University. In both games, she tallied the three goals in the opening half.
  • Ruskey led the Explorers on the draw with four draw controls. Johnston followed with three, while Hunter and freshman Maddie Henderson each had two.
  • The Blue & Gold won the turnover battle with 10 to the Hawks' 17.
