PHILADELPHIA – Lacrosse dropped its second conference game of the season in a 17-10 defeat to UMass on Sunday. Senior
Emily Johnston led the way with three goals, one assist, four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Minutewomen opened the game on fire, finding the back of the net six times in the first four minutes.
- The Explorers settled into the game after that and found success, outscoring their opposition 6-2 over the ensuing 20 minutes.
- With the gap narrowed to 8-6, two late goals from UMass pushed its advantage to four heading into the half.
- The second frame began in the same way that the previous half ended. UMass tallied three goals to extend its lead to 13-6.
- Senior Annina Iacobucci scored her second of the game, UMass responded. Senior Allison Hunter converted on the power play, UMass had an answer. Iacobucci scored again, but two more goals for the Minutewomen put the game at 17-9.
- Sophomore Madi McKee scored with under a minute to play, wrapping up the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- McKee was one of three Explorers with multi-goal games. La Salle's number 25 finished with a brace, while Johnston and Iacobucci recorded hattricks.
- For Iacobucci, she now has multi-goal games in three of the past four contests and is tied with classmate Bridget Ruskey for the team lead with 14 goals this season.
- The Explorers held the edge in ground balls, 23-17. Seven Explorers had multiple ground balls: Johnston and Hunter each scooped up four, Iacobucci and classmate Maddie Dachowski recorded three, McKee, senior Priya Kavuru and junior Erin Welsh had two.
- Johnston was one of two Explorers with two caused turnovers in the game. The other was senior Jess Hewitt.
- Johnston also paced the Explorers on the draw. McKee followed her with two draw controls.
