Nare’s Two Goals Lead Men’s Soccer to 3-1 Win over Drexel in Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Junior Nare scored two goals to lead the La Salle men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Philadelphia Soccer Six foe Drexel Saturday night, 3-1, in its home opener from McCarthy Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nare picked up where he left off in the last game, where he had a goal and an assist, and quickly found the back of the net in the fourth minute on an assist from junior Omari Cotterell for a quick 1-0 lead.
  • Junior goalkeeper Brett Werner stopped two shots in the first half and kept the Dragons off the scoreboard as the Explorers entered halftime with the game's only goal.
  • Junior Nigel Buckley made it a two-goal lead for La Salle in the 61st minute when fellow junior Ike Hollinger found him open for his first tally of the season.
  • Drexel made things interesting in the 78th minute when Elliot Swigert slipped one into the bottom right corner to bring the Dragons back within one, 2-1.
  • But Nare put the game away for good with his second goal of the night and third of his career in the 83rd minute to give the Explorers a two-goal advantage once more.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Werner made five saves in net and the two teams were fairly even on shots, with La Salle holding an 11-10 edge.
  • The Explorers improved to 3-1 with their second consecutive win, matching their record through four games from a season ago.
UP NEXT
  • La Salle will open up Atlantic 10 play on Saturday when it hosts Rhode Island for a 7 p.m. contest at McCarthy Stadium.
