Levins Homers Twice as Baseball Outruns Towson, 16-11

TOWSON, Md. – Junior Tatem Levins hit two home runs to lead the La Salle University baseball team to its 25th win of the season at Towson on Tuesday, 16-11. Senior Jack Cucinotta also went deep as the Explorers jumped out to a huge lead and totaled 16 runs on 12 hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The scoring started in the second when freshman Will Binder was hit by pitch with the bases loaded. Shortly after, sophomore Connor Coolahan hit a two-run single through the left side to make it 3-0.
  • The next batter, senior Jack Cucinotta, drove the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot to push the Explorers ahead 6-0 early.
  • La Salle expanded on the lead in the fourth, when Levins lifted his first homer of the afternoon to right center, a three-run long ball to give the Explorers a commanding 9-0 advantage.
  • Towson chipped away at that lead though and scored one in the fourth and six in the fifth to suddenly come back within a pair, 9-7.
  • In Levins' next plate appearance in the sixth, he did it again, hitting his second three-run bomb of the game to make it 12-7 with a no-doubter well past the right field fence.
  • The sixth continued with redshirt sophomore Nick Di Vietro hitting an RBI single and senior Tommy Toal later walking with the bases loaded to open up a 14-7 lead.
  • The Tigers answered the call though and plated four in the bottom of the sixth to get back within three, 14-11.
  • La Salle then got some insurance runs in the top of the seventh with Levins and sophomore Elijah Dickerson scoring on an error to make it 16-11.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • La Salle is now 25-13 overall, which continues to be the best start in school history through 38 games. It was also the 11th win in 13 games for the Explorers. The win also improved La Salle's road record to 14-6.
  • Levins went 3-for-6 with a career-high six RBI and scored three runs. The six RBIs are the most in a game by an Explorer since graduate student Ryan Guckin had six in a win over Saint Peter's in 2019. The catcher also joined the 100-RBI club and now has 40 on the season and 103 for his career.
  • Coolahan went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore Elijah Dickerson was 2-for-5 with a run.
  • Senior Colin Kennedy (3-0) got the win on the mound after firing 2.0 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts, and redshirt freshman Colin Yablonski struck out a career-high five batters over 2.0 innings of relief.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers will return home to Hank DeVincent Field for a three-game series with Penn. First pitch of game one is set for 3 p.m. on Friday.
