Women’s Soccer Avenges Early Season Loss to UMass with 2-1 Win

AMHERST, Mass. – The La Salle women's soccer team (6-2-0, 3-2-0 A-10) avenged its earlier 1-0 loss to Massachusetts (5-4-1, 4-1-1 A-10) with a 2-1 road win on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • It was a defensive first half with no score. Just four shots combined between the Explorers and Minutewomen, with La Salle leading that category 3-1.
  • Less than six minutes into the second half, senior Amirah Louketis nailed a 36-yard strike over the keeper's head to put the Blue & Gold on top, 1-0.
  • During the 56th minute, rookie Giovanna Castorina found classmate Kelli McGroarty for a chip shot over the UMass' keeper who was out of position.
  • UMass found the back of the net for the first time in a few games with a perfect header by Lindsay Wolf off of a corner kick from Lauren Bonavita.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Louketis and McGroarty remain tied for the team lead in points and goals after each tallied a score.
  • Castorina picked up her second assist on the season.
  • Redshirt-freshman Jordynn Stallard (5-2-0) made one save and allowed just one score.
GAME NOTES:
  • McGroarty is tied with redshirt-sophomore Camaren Cox (2018) and Kristin Haugstad (2014) with the most goals by a rookie (5) since all-time goal scorer Kelsey Haycook's 16 in 2011.
