Men's Track and Field | June 11, 2021
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior
Dennis Manyeah of the La Salle University men's track and field team earned All-America status in the high jump as he wrapped up the 2021 season at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Friday.
Manyeah placed 16th in the country in the high jump out of the 24 finalists. He finished with a top height of 2.15 meters (7' 0.5"), just shy of his school record.
"We are very excited and proud of Dennis," said jumps and sprints coach
Remington Blair. "His goal was to make it to this meet and he did just that."
The Darby, Pa., native easily cleared 2.10 meters in his first attempt and then cleared 2.15 meters on his second effort, which ultimately put him 16th, good for second team All-American.
That puts Manyeah in rare company as just the fourth individual field athlete in program history to earn All-America honors. He's the first field athlete to do so since John Uelses won the pole vault national title in 1964. Manyeah becomes the 16th All-American in the men's program and the first since Chris Sanders earned first team honors in the 800-meter run in 2016.
It's been quite the ride for Manyeah since transferring to La Salle from Eastern Michigan. He swept the Atlantic 10 Conference indoor and outdoor high jump championships in 2019 and then defended his outdoor title this year by setting a new conference meet record. This season, Manyeah made his second straight NCAA East Preliminary appearance and punched his ticket to Eugene with a school-record jump of 2.16 meters.
"A great close to the season, but we're already thinking to the next. We've only caught a glimpse of what Dennis will do. Next season will be bigger and better."
