Women’s Soccer Takes Home Opener Over Colgate, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA – Two first half goals proved to be enough for La Salle women's soccer (1-2) as it defeated Colgate (2-1), 2-1, in its home opener on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Danielle Rooney notched her first goal of the campaign after freshman Shea Collins stormed down the left side of the field and sent a pass into the box for Rooney to finish. The goal came during the 14th minute.
  • Almost nine minutes later, junior Emily Banashefski held position just inside the box on the far left of the field. She sent a service into the box where senior Camaren Cox headed the ball past the Colgate keeper for the eventual game winner.
  • Colgate's Hannah Pinkus scored off a corner kick with less than six minutes remaining, but the Raiders couldn't put anything else together offensively.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • La Salle finished with 12 shots compared to Colgate's four, including six on net.
  • The Explorers also won the corner kick battle, 7-4.
  • Both Rooney's and Cox's goals are the first of the season for them.
  • Banashefski is now the team's top scorer after her assist with three points on the year.
  • Redshirt-sophomore Jordynn Stallard (1-1) picked up the win making one save and allowing one goal.
