PHILADELPHIA – Following their home opening win, La Salle women's soccer program (1-2) is back on the road as they head to Drexel on Thursday, Sept. 2 and #16 Rutgers on Sunday, Sept. 5.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle enters play at 1-2 after winning their home opener over Colgate, 2-1.
- Danielle Rooney scored her first goal of the campaign on a feed from freshman Shea Collins to open the scoring in the 14th minute.
- Minutes later, junior Emily Banashefski played a perfect ball into redshirt-junior Camaren Cox who placed a header into the net for a 2-0 lead.
- Redshirt-sophomore keeper Jordynn Stallard tallied the win, making a save while conceding just one goal in the 86th minute.
- Banashefski leads the Explorers with three points, averaging one per game in the young season.
- As a team, La Salle is averaging 7.3 shots per game, getting those attempts on net at a .500 clip
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS:
- Drexel is off to a 2-1 start to their season after being picked to finish sixth in the CAA.
- After starting their season with an overtime loss to Villanova, 2-1, the Dragons bounced back with wins over Lehigh, 2-1 and Lafayette, 4-0.
- Senior Lauren Currey as selected to the 2021 Preseason All-CAA team and currently ranks 11th on the Drexel all-time goals list.
- Redshirt-sophomore Gabrielle Perrotto and sophomore Delaney Lappin each tie for the team lead with two goals apiece.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS:
- #16 Rutgers enters play 2-0 this season, outscoring their opponents 11-1 through two games
- Following their 5-1 win over Providence, senior Frankie Tagliaferria was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week while freshman Riley Tiernan was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
- Both Tagliaferri and senior Amirah Ali were named to the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
- Tagliaferri leads the team with nine points, while sophomore Sara Brocious and freshman Riley Tiernan each have recorded five.
