PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's soccer team took an early lead thanks to a goal from sophomore
Junior Nare. But Fordham equalized prior to halftime and score the eventual game winner midway through the second to defeat the Explorers, 2-1, at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Explorers had the first early chance of the contest when senior Omari Cotterell made a run in the box and just missed putting a head on a cross.
- La Salle kept up the pressure and Nare gave the home team a 1-0 advantage when he rifled home his third goal of the season from 18 yards out in the 24th minute.
- With less than 10 minutes left in the first half, Fordham was able to equalize when a La Salle defender redirected a cross in the box into his own net.
- The score remained the same until the 64-minute mark, when Jack Sluys converted from the right side.
- In the 68th minute, sophomore Scott Beeks took a free kick from just outside the box and put an attempt on frame but Nick Buchholz was up to the task and made a sprawling save.
- La Salle continued to fight for the match-tying tally, with Cotterell just missing a header that slid just left of the post in the 82nd minute.
