Field Hockey Begins A-10 Play at Richmond, VCU

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle field hockey (4-4) opens up Atlantic 10 play on Friday, Sept. 24 at Richmond before traveling to VCU on Sunday, Sept. 26.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • After beginning the season 4-0 at Hank DeVincent Field, La Salle suffered their first home setback against Towson in a 1-0 loss. 
  • Despite a 15-4 edge in shots and a 10-2 advantage in penalty corners by the Explorers, the Tigers were able to hold on for a 1-0 win.
  • In their second game of the past weekend, La Salle dropped a 6-3 decision to Villanova on the road. 
  • Freshman Sofia Pla scored her team-high seventh goal of the season in the match. 
  • As a team, La Salle is averaging 2.38 goals per game while conceding 2.25 per contest. 
  • 12 different Explorers have recorded points, led by double-digit efforts fro Pla (15) and sophomore Tatum Johnson (12). 
  • Sophomore Ryan Curley has made all eight starts in goal for La Salle, holding a 4-4 record with a save percentage of 0.746. 
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS:
  • Richmond (1-6) won their A-10 conference opener, beating Saint Louis 4-0 on Sept. 17. The Spiders were tabbed to finish fourth in the A-10 preseason poll. 
  • Senior Steffie Bongers leads the Spiders with eight points on three goals and two assists. 
  • Goalkeeper Erika Latta has made all seven starts, allowing 15 goals while stopping shots at a .722 clip. 
  • As a team, the Spiders average 1.00 goals per game while conceding 2.14 per contest.  
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
  • The preseason A-10 favorite, VCU (4-2) opened their conference slate with a 3-0 win over Lock Haven on Sept. 17. 
  • The Ram offense is led by Lonica McKinney and Janne Wetzel, who have each racked up 10 points. 
  • Goalkeeper Sasha Elliott has played a majority of the minutes in goal for VCU, holding a save percentage of .829 while conceding just seven goals in six games. 
  • The Ram offense has averaged 3.00 goals per game while conceding just 1.17 on defense.
