Men’s Soccer Drops Road Match at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Back-to-back goals in the first four minutes of the game gave Duquesne an early lead that La Salle men's soccer couldn't overcome. The Explorers dropped the contest 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Dukes struck in the first minute off a left-footed goal by leading goal scorer Maxi Hopfer. It wasn't long until Nate Dragisich intercepted the ball and found the high center of the net to put Duquesne up 2-0 with 86 minutes left in the game.
  • La Salle tried to answer back in the sixth minute when Charlie Collins crossed the ball into the box from the left wing to Omari Cotterell who got caught up in the sea of white just missing the tip into the net.
  • Cotterell set up the ball for the Blue & Gold in the 23rd minute controlling it up the right side and dumping it off to Ike Hollinger who sent the shot wide left off the foot of a Duquesne defenseman.
  • Hopfer collected the save from a displaced Carlos Mora in the 38th minute and placed it in the back of the net for the Dukes' third and final goal of the game.
  • La Salle's final effort to get on the board came in the 80th minute when Cotterell brought the ball up the left side and found Hollinger in the center of the box. Hollinger sent the ball wide left to Dominick Bachstein who placed it across the front of the net back to Hollinger for the tip. The Dukes tied up the senior forward in traffic sending the ball wide right.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Cotterell led the Explorers on the offense, ripping off five total shots with three on goal.
