La Salle Hosts Dayton in First Home A10 Matchup

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle women's basketball team (8-5, 1-0 A10) is set to host Atlantic 10 foe Dayton (10-3, 1-0 A10) in its first conference contest at home in Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m.

All college students will receive free entry to the game with a valid student i.d.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • The Explorers return home following a come-from-behind victory at Fordham on Sunday, Jan. 9. La Salle, who trailed the majority of the game, put together a 48-point performance in the second half to pull ahead of the Rams 71-62, marking La Salle's first conference victory and snapping an eight-game skid in the series against Fordham.
  • Kayla Spruill earned Player of the Week honors from both the A-10 and Big 5 following her huge 24-point and 10-rebound performance in the game against Fordham. The senior is currently shooting 44.5% from the field, 42.2% from deep and 90.2% from the line. Spruill's 24 points at Fordham pushed her past the 1,000-point milestone, making her just the 26th Explorer in program to accomplish earn the career achievement.
  • Amy Jacobs played a crucial role in the Explorers' victory over Fordham scoring 12 of her season-high 14 points in the fourth quarter on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting and a near-perfect 4-of-5 from the line.
  • Gabby Crawford and Claire Jacobs are both averaging double-digits for the Explorers this season. Crawford is shooting 63.2% from the field and averaging 17.0 points per game. Jacobs is shooting 40.3% from the long range and averaging 11.7 points per game.
  • As a team, La Salle is shooting 37.0% from the field, 31.1% from the long range and 77.3% from the line.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS:
  • Dayton travels to La Salle for its first A10 road matchup of the season. The Flyers are also 1-0 in conference play following a 90-43 victory over St. Bonaventure on Jan. 4. Dayton is currently riding a four-game winning streak and are 2-1 when playing on the road.
  • As a squad, Dayton is averaging 68.6 points per game while holding its opponents to just 57.8 points each. The Flyers are shooting 40.2% as a whole, 38.8% from the 3-point range and 67.9% from the line.
  • Dayton holds +4.8 rebounding and +2.1 turnover margins.
  • The Flyers are led by graduate student Erin Whalen averaging 16.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
  • Makira Cook and Jenna Giacone are also averaging double digits chipping in 15.5 and 12.7 points per game, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • This marks the 42nd meeting between La Salle and Dayton will the Explorers trailing 16-25 in the all-time series. The Flyers have won the last six matchups between the teams, including the team's last meeting at the A-10 Championship Quarterfinals on Mar. 12 last year. Dayton came out on top with an 85-70 victory to knock La Salle out of the tournament.
