PHILADELPHIA – Interim Head Rowing Coach
Bill Manning announced the addition of Ivo Krakic to the La Salle rowing staff on Thursday morning, becoming the assistant coach for both the men's and women's team.
"Ivo brings a world of experience and an awareness of high-performance rowing from his native Croatia to La Salle," stated Manning. "He helped raise expectations at La Salle when he volunteered with the Explorers previously and now will contribute to the coaching staff and teams as a dedicated, full-time coach. Our athletes will enjoy and benefit greatly from his mentoring and coaching."
Krakic was a four-year rower for the Drexel Dragons, finishing his collegiate career in 2017. During his career, Krakic recorded three Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team nods and was selected to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) All-Academic Team.
"I am very excited to join the La Salle family," said Krakic. "After once being a fellow competitor on boathouse row and racing against La Salle, I have gained a huge respect for the program over the years. I was lucky enough to volunteer for La Salle and witnessed the program's potential first hand. I can see the commitment that the athletic department has toward both rowing programs, its student-athletes and the community. I am thankful for this opportunity and eager to be a part of La Salle's growth. Go Explorers!"
Ivo has had a previous tenure volunteering for the both the Drexel and La Salle rowing program. Krakic helped coach the men's varsity four at Drexel that made it to the IRA Grand Finals in 2018, looking to implement that success in his second time on 20
th and Olney.
Throughout his career as a Dragon, Krakic accumulated over 15 wins with his boat, placing in top-four positions on an additional 18 occasions. Krakic helped the Dragons to five consecutive Dad Vail Regatta team titles, earning the varsity eight's second gold medal in program history in the 2016-17 season. In his four seasons, the Dragons placed in the top 20 all four times at the IRA National Championships. Krakic helped Drexel to its best ever ranking in program history during his junior season, the Dragons eclipsing as high as 14
th in the USRowing polls. The Croatian native also helped Drexel to seven consecutive Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup victories, amongst an impressive record in duals throughout his career.
Following his success at the collegiate level, Krakic found similar fortunes back in his home country. Ivo rowed at the Croatian National Championships in 2018 and finished third in both the coxed four and the men's eight.
