La Salle Drops a Hard-Fought Match to George Washington

Washington, DC – The Explorers men's soccer team traveled to our nation's capital and fell late to George Washington 1-0.
 
La Salle will now be 3-8-4 overall, and 2-3-2 in Atlantic 10 conference play. George Washington goes to 7-7-2.
 
How it Happened –
  • George Washington came out shooting early, but the Explorer's defense held strong.
  • Filip Sabatti made a big save towards the end of the first half as a GW forward put a shot on goal towards the top of the net.
  • Omari Cotterell had a breakaway opportunity in the 59th minute of the match but the shot was tipped wide by the Colonials goalkeeper to keep the game scoreless.
  • A free kick at the top of the box in the 64th minute allowed Omri Ezra to put a bending shot on net, but a diving save by Justin Grady stopped the shot from going in.
  • Omari Cotterell took ball down the entire pitch through a couple defenders in the 84th minute of the game, but hit shot was met by George Washington's goalkeeper.
  • Oscar Haynes Brown scored the first goal in the match to give the Colonials the late 1-0 lead in the 87th minute.
  • A late free kick gave Nigel Buckley the chance to tie the game in the 88th minute, but the shot was blocked by the George Washington defense.

  • La Salle led 22-19 in total shots taken, and 7-6 in shots on goal.
  • There were 28 total fouls in the match, 14 by each team.
  • George Washington had 9 corner kicks opposed to La Salle's 6.
  • Each team had two yellow cards against them.

  • La Salle will return home on Tuesday, October 25th at 7 p.m. to take on Columbia.
