Omari Cotterell Scores a Pair as La Salle Blanks Columbia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – La Salle men's soccer earned a 3-0 victory over the Columbia Lions at McCarthy Stadium tonight. The Explorers had a strong second half offensively, helping them to the win.
 
La Salle now goes to 4-8-4 overall this season, and Columbia falls to 1-7-5 overall.
 
How it Happened –
  • The first half of the contest did not result in goals for either team, but both goalkeepers were busy as La Salle's Filip Sabatti saved one shot on goal, and Columbia's Michael Collodi saved three.
  • Omari Cotterell scored the game's first goal with a powerful penalty kick attempt to put La Salle up 1-0. Cotterell earned the attempt after being tripped up in the box in the 46th minute.
  • Cotterelle scored his second goal of the night in the 64th minute. Cotterell made his way from midfield, through three defenders, and shot the ball from the top of the box to give the Explorers the 2-0 lead.
  • A corner kick sent in by Isak Sedin in the 78th minute allowed Luis Puchol to put La Salle up 3-0. The pass by Sedin found its way to Puchol's left foot, and without it hitting the ground, got it to the back of the net.
 
Inside the Numbers –
  • Omari Cotterell scored his fourth and fifth goals tonight, putting him one behind the team leader in goals, Nigel Buckley.
  • Luis Puchol scored his second goal on the season.
  • La Salle led the match with 16 total shots, eight on goal, opposed to Columbia's seven total, one on goal.
  • Columbia has eight corner kicks on the night, and La Salle had six.
  • There were 22 total fouls throughout the match, 11 by each team.

  • La Salle will face the Duquesne Dukes (10-2-4, 4-0-3 in conference) at McCarthy stadium on Saturday, October 29th at 5 p.m. The Explorers will be looking to earn their way to the Atlantic-10 Conference playoffs in this match.
