Explorers Round Out the Season at #12 Saint Joseph’s and Fairfield

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle field hockey team takes to the road one last time to complete its season with contests against Saint Joseph's on Friday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. and Fairfield on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • The Explorers enter the contest with a 8-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play. La Salle comes off a week-long hiatus after defeating Saint Louis 2-0 at home on Friday, Oct. 21.
  • Tatum Johnson continues to lead the Explorers offensive efforts totaling 13 goals and five assists for 31 points so far this season. She leads La Salle in game-winning goals with four and holds a .776 shot on goal percentage. The junior ranks first in the league in shots on goal averaging 2.24 per contest. She lands second on the conference leaderboard in goals (13), game-winning goals (4) and points (31).
  • Peyton Tollaksen joined the Explorers this season and has made her mark offensively. The fifth-year forward has recorded four goals and two assists for 10 points and has placed 20 of her 31 shots this season on the cage.
  • Sol Espona and Cat McFadden have each tallied four goals apiece for La Salle this season while Sofia Pla has recorded three.
  • Laura McCann is the only other multi-goal Explorer with two while Paige Doyle, Zhao Rodrigo and Samie Hackman have put one on the board each.
  • Ryan Curley has been dominant in the cage for La Salle. She has played the entirety of all 17 contests this season including three overtime games. The junior has recorded four shutouts this season and holds a .704 save percentage making 76 total saves on 186 shots faced. Curley leads the conference in shutouts per game (.235) and ranks second in saves per game (4.47).
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:
  • The No. 12 Hawks enter the contest with a 12-4 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play.
  • Saint Joseph's is coming off a 6-0 loss against No. 1 ranked North Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 23. The loss marked the largest deficit for the Hawks this season and put an end to an eight-game win streak.
  • The Hawks have won the last eight games against the Explorers and have only dropped six contests dating back to 2005. The Explorers have not defeated St. Joe's since recording a 3-1 victory on Oct. 16, 2015. St. Joe's is 5-3 when taking on La Salle at home.
  • Lily Santi leads the scoring effort for the Hawks this season with a team-high and league-high 15 goals in 16 games. The mark puts her tied for seventh in the nation in goals per game. Santi ties for team-high assists with seven.
  • Manu Ghigliotti is the second-leading goal scorer with eight total goals including three game-winning goals followed by Freke van Tilburg with seven goals and three-game winners. Van Tilburg ties with Santi for team-high assists with seven.
  • The Hawks roster hosts nine other goal scorers with four having scored two or more.
  • Robin Bleekemolen has started and played in all 16 games in the cage. She holds a .732 save percentage making 41 saves on 102 shots faced. She has given up just 15 goals to her opponents this season. She ranks first in the conference in goals against average allowing just 1.147 per game. The mark places her 13th nationally in the category.
SCOUTING THE STAGS:
  • Fairfield enters the contest with an 8-8 record most recently bouncing back from a 2-1 loss at home against Wagner with a 3-2 victory over LIU on the road. The loss against Wagner put a stop to a three-game victory streak for the Stags against opponents Merrimack, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Quinnipiac.
  • The Stags are 5-3 when playing at home this season.
  • La Salle holds the edge over Fairfield in the series, 4-2, dating back to 1985. Most recently, the results have been in the Stags favor as they enter this game having won the last two against the Explorers, both contests being at home for Fairfield. The wins marked the only two for Fairfield in the series history.
  • Nora Amme is the Stags leading goal scorer finding the back of the cage seven times in 16 games.
  • Alex Senior and Julianna Kratz rank second on the team in goals with four apiece.
  • The roster hosts six other multi-goal scorers and three Stags who have scored once this season.
  • Payton Rahn has spent the majority of the time in the cage for the Stags. She has played in and started in 15 games. She holds a .705 save percentage totaling 74 saves on 161 shots faced.
