Women's Rowing | October 30, 2022
PHILADELPHIA - An impressive showing from the freshman/novice 8+ crew highlighted a great day for the La Salle women's rowing team at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday. The group of newcomers earned gold in its head race, bettering 15 competitors including boats from Duquesne, Saint Joseph's, UConn, and Army.
"This freshmen/novice group is special - these are women that chose to row at La Salle because they recognized and believed in what we are building," head coach Kelsey Franks said. "Their win today is a culmination of their hard work to be the best versions of themselves every day. These women stepped up and committed to each other under the intense pressure of racing and it paid off. They made our team, alums, and University proud."
The club championship eight also had an impressive showing, closing in 14th place out of a field of 46, and defeating the likes of Fordham, Army, and Holy Cross. The championship eight was the fastest boat of the three competing on the day, and closed in eighth position.
"Overall, the entire team had a great showing and learned a lot this weekend, but I was most proud of how they all supported each other," Franks said."We're turning the page into next week as we prepare for one of the most competitive races of the year at Princeton Chase. We know the women are ready to do whatever it takes to have our best showing against the fastest teams in the country."
