Nigel Buckley Scores Twice as the Explorers Tie Rhode Island 2-2

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – La Salle men's soccer finished the night in a 2-2- tie to A-10 conference member Rhode Island.
 
The Explorers are now 3-5-4 (2-1-2 in conference) on the season, and the Rams go to 5-1-5 (1-1-2 in conference).
 
How it Happened –
  • The Explorers came out firing on offense as they put up five shots within the first 25 minutes of the match.
  • The scoring was started by Rhode Island in the 57th minute as Patrick Agyemang took in a pass from Cian Purcell to give the Rams the 1-0 lead.
  • In the 69th minute Nigel Buckley was making a push towards the net but was fouled within the box causing a penalty kick. Buckley used his right foot to power the ball low past the Rams goalkeeper.
  • The Rams responded 18 seconds later in the 69th minute as Edvin Akselsen found a centering pass from Rafa Villanueva to give the Rams the 2-1 lead.
  • La Salle would then strike back in the 84th minute as Nigel Buckley scored his second goal of the match. Talla Faye found Giammarco Rodio who put the initial shot on goal, caused a rebound by the goalkeeper, which led to the sliding goal by Buckley to tie the game at two.
 
Inside the Numbers –
  • Nigel Buckley now leads La Salle in goals on the season after scoring his fourth and fifth tonight.
  • La Salle is 2-0-2 in their last four games.
  • The Explorers had 13 shots tonight, six on goal, while the Rams had nine total, eight on goal.
  • Rhode Island had four corner kicks opposed to La Salle's two.
  • There were 25 total fouls in the game, 13 by La Salle, 12 by Rhode Island.
