Men’s Basketball Drops Home Contest to Saint Louis

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's basketball team suffered a 75-57 setback to Saint Louis on Tuesday evening inside Tom Gola Arena in TruMark Financial Center.
 
La Salle falls to 7-14 on the season and 2-9 in A-10 play. Saint Louis moves to 17-6 on the year, an 8-2 record in conference action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Josh Nickelberry got the Explorers going early, knocking down a trey on the first possession to continue his hot shooting.
  • After a low scoring opening five minutes that saw the Explorers go up 5-3, the Billikens used a 12-2 run to take a 15-7 lead.
  • Working their way back into the game, a triple from Clifton Moore gave him his ninth point of the half, cutting the Saint Louis to 26-22.
  • Saint Louis countered with a 12-3 run of their own, pushing the lead to 41-27 at the break.
  • Jhamir Brickus opened with the first five points of the second half for the Explorers, quickly cutting the deficit back into single-digits.
  • With the deficit holding near the 10-point mark, the league-leading scoring offense of Saint Louis quickly pushed their tally to 17, up 67-50 with just over four minutes remaining. The Billikens would cruise to a 75-57 victory to move to 8-2 in conference play.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Moore paced the Explorers with a game-high 23 points, shooting 8-16 from the field. Moore finished with four blocks, all in the first half, while adding five rebounds.
  • Nickelberry contributed 17 points, shooting 6-13 from the field. 10 of his 17 points came in the second half.
  • Christian Ray recorded his 10th career game of double-digit rebounds, the fourth of the season. The junior added three assists on the night.
  • The Explorers finished 21-59 from the field, good for just 35.6%. Saint Louis finished 45.9% from the field, outrebounding La Salle 43-31.
  • The Billikens outscored the Explorers in the paint, 46-22.
  • Francis Okoro paced Saint Louis with 19 points, Fred Thatch Jr. adding 14 points and 10 rebounds.

  • The Explorers begin a four-game road trip, starting with a trip south to take on Richmond in the second matchup between the Explorers and Spiders on the season.
