TELFORD, Pa. – The La Salle women's golf team battled against Niagara on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Purple Eagles 333-345 in a dual at the Indian Valley Country Club.
After competing in a dual the night prior, the Explorers made the return trip from New York and avenged their defeat to Hofstra on Friday, grabbing the second dual win in program history with the 12 stroke advantage over Niagara.
ABOUT THE COURSE
- A par 72, the Indian Valley course plays at 5,779 yards.
- The event was an 18 hole, one round tournament with five players on each side, one Niagara golfer registering as an individual.
LA SALLE SCORECARD
- For the second time in as many duals, Kayleigh Zeman paced the Explorers by carding a 78 (+6), leading the pack by three strokes.
- Hannah Basler followed just behind her teammate with an 81 (+9) on the afternoon, good for second place.
- Grace Weiss made her spring debut, scoring an 85 in her first round of the season to sit at 13-over, tied fourth in the field of 11.
- Libby Gilliland ended her round sitting at 89, cleaning six strokes off her round against Hofstra.
- Megan Ruffing closed the Explorers' round out with a 91 (+19).
LEADERBOARD
- Zeman took the individual title with her score of 78, helping the Explorers past the Purple Eagles. The sophomore was five strokes ahead of Niagara's lowest scorer.
- Three of the four golfers who competed in duals in back-to-back days finished with lower scores than on Friday against Hofstra.
- The win over Niagara was just the second dual win in program history, the first also coming against the Purple Eagles in October 2017.
UP NEXT
- The Explorers are back in action Monday, entering the field of the Quail Valley Spring Invitational. The event is currently the last scheduled tournament before the MAAC Championships on April 22.
