OLEAN, N.Y. – Trailing by two goals with 4:02 remaining after a 5-0 run by the Bonnies to open the fourth quarter, La Salle women's lacrosse rallied to score the final three goals of the game to beat St. Bonaventure 12-11 on Friday afternoon.
Friday's win marked the second Atlantic 10 conference win of the season for La Salle (4-9, 2-3 A-10) as well as the first road victory of the season for the Explorers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle's offense got off to a hot start in the opening quarter, scoring four goals in the opening frame to hold a 4-1 lead through 15 minutes.
- Maddie Henderson, Emily Johnston, Lola Quigley, and Kiki Venza all tallied goals for the Explorers in the period, while Henderson also notched a pair of assists.
- The Bonnies responded in the second frame, outscoring La Salle 4-1 in the frame to knot the game at 5-5 entering halftime.
- Once again, the La Salle offense heated up in the third, scouring the first three goals and four of five total in the quarter to surge back in front 9-6. Venza tallied a goal and assist, while Dachowski, Henderson, and Johnston all added goals for La Salle.
- The Bonnies answered in a big way in the fourth, scoring the first five goals of the quarter over 9:24 of play to take an 11-9 lead. Five different players scored for St. Bonaventure during that stretch in Hogan, Anderson, Hiltz, McGovern, and Mazur.
- The Explorer comeback kicked off with 4:02 remaining, as Tori Rolon split two defenders to tally her 14th goal of the season and get La Salle within one, 11-10.
- Emily Johnston followed 1:14 later with her second goal of the game, netting her 31st of the year to knot the game at 11-11.
- Just twenty seconds after Johnston tied the game, Henderson gave La Salle the lead for good on a free-position tally with 2:28 in regulation, making the score 12-11.
- The Bonnies had a chance to tie the game with 1:25 to play, but La Salle goalkeeper Kelli McGroarty made a huge save and secured the ground ball, allowing La Salle to hold possession for the remaining time and walk away with the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Johnston's four-goal outing on Friday marked her fourth hattrick of the season, and second performance with at least four goals. The graduate-senior also added seven draw controls and a caused turnover.
- Henderson stuffed the stat-sheet for the Explorers, scoring three goals while adding four draw controls and a ground ball.
- Both Kelli McGroarty and Julia Dellaratta played 30 minutes in goal, combining for 11 total saves.
- Erin Welsh led the Explorers with two caused turnovers, while added two ground balls.
- La Salle led the game in shots (32-27), ground balls (15-14) and draw controls (15-12).
- Friday's win marks the fourth one-goal win of the season for La Salle, who improved to 4-0 in one-goal games.
