BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - La Salle senior Liz Mancini bested a school record held by her elder sister, Grace, and earned a trip to National Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 8-11 with a spectacular performance in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday.

Mancini started off strong and was among the leaders the entire race, moving into second place at the midway point just 13 hundredths of a second behind the leader. From there, Mancini cruised to the top-five finish she needed to pick up an automatic qualifying spot into the national final.

Her time of 15:56.40 surpassed Grace Mancini's record of 15:58.40 set last season. Liz Mancini is just the fifth La Salle woman to advance to nationals, joining her sister, Grace (2021), Rachel Papin (2006-08), Terry Carroll (1998), and Sheila Reid (1986).

Another Mancini sister, Christine Mancini, rounded out a season that saw her set a new school record in her specialty event, the 800-meter run, and advance to the NCAA quarterfinal round. On Saturday, Christine Mancini ran 2:07.69 to finish 24th.
